Jackson State's women's basketball program has announced its schedule for the 2016-17 season, in which the Lady Tigers will compete in several high-profile matchups. The highest award was given as announced by the Southwestern Athletics Conference, and the highest award was given to the winner of the Women's Basketball Tournament, the first of its kind in Mississippi State since it was announced in 2010.
The Lady Braves will play the first women's basketball tournament of the Southwestern Athletics Conference at the University of Mississippi in Jackson on Saturday, November 5, starting at 7: 30 p.m.
The schedule includes four home games, three road games and a road game at the University of Mississippi, including a home game against Mississippi State on Saturday, November 5, at 7: 30 p.m.

The Missouri Southern men's basketball team took advantage of a huge second half against Maryville (Mo.) and the Lady Tigers lead 5-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Maravich Center. The Lions are in the NCAA Division II Region Finals for the first time since Southern defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 72-71 on Saturday, January 2, 2009. The win improved Southern to 11-2 and marked the Lady Tigers' 10th consecutive advance to the second round of the tournament. In fact, the Tigers defeated Grambling State University by the same margin in their last meeting, securing the 2007 SWAC championship.
The Tigers were crushed 37-22 at the boards and used a 14-0 run in the second half to outsmart Maryville, 30-14, en route to a 35-16 lead.
Led by Williams, the Lady Tigers held the Colonels to 37 percent ball possession and 12 rebounds, aided by 16 on offense. However, they turned the ball over seven times and recorded 26 turnovers in a game, compared to 14 for Jackson State.
Jackson State's 11 points were the second-fewest points scored in a half in NCAA tournament history. It was LSU's lowest score since limiting Tulane to 10 points in its first-round game against Texas A & M on Jan.
In Mizzou's last win at Humphrey Coliseum, assistant coach Chris Hollender sat on the bench at MSU and the Tigers led the way in the second half with goals from Keion Bell and Jabari Brown. Tigers coach Cuonzo Martin coached at Tennessee, and McNeil switched roles during his first stint at Jackson State, but returned to the coaching bench after joining the staff at North Texas in 2010. He moved into athletic administration and stayed there until 2011, when he was named head coach of Mississippi State's women's basketball team.
He earned a PhD in computer science and was an assistant coach at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A & M University before moving to the Florida Institute of Technology.

He studied business administration and was a starter on the US Army National Team for two years from 2008 to 2009.
As a member of Jackson State's staff, Dixon coached Amie Williams, a two-time state champion in the 3,000-meter race and a three-time winner of the state title. Dixon also worked as an assistant coach at Texas Southern University, where she helped lead the Lady Tigers to their best finish in a decade. The Tigers also had nine senior student athletes - all receiving state honors; two ended up on the first or second team and five more earned honorable mentions. In 2016, the Lady Tigers won the district championship and finished second at the regional meeting, where two of their top-ranked players qualified for the top meeting of the year.
Dixon, who is from Mississippi, is from Texas Southern University in Jackson State, where she has a 67-20 overall record. Dayzsha Rogan joins the Lady Tigers from Northeast Mississippi Community College, and Ameysha Williams joins the University of Arkansas - Little Rock - in Mississippi State after two years as an assistant coach.
